Rumor Roundup: Big Update On The Rock-Roman Reigns, Additional WWE Releases Coming? More

3) Backstage Note On Mia Yim’s Release

According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select (subscribe here), WWE made some plans for Mia Yim before her release. None of these plans ended up coming to fruition and she was released by the company.

Here is what Sapp wrote:

Mia Yim was drafted, not used, and hadn’t wrestled at all in 2021. Fightful learned there were several tentative plans to have her on shows before the draft, and she’d quietly changed brands multiple times. However, those plans all ended up getting nixed and never got off the ground

My Take:

  • It is a shame as I wanted to see her get a chance to shine without the Retribution gimmick. She will land on her feet though as she is talented.

2) Backstage Note On The WWE Releases

There was a rumor this week that a few of the Superstars that were released recently by WWE were not vaccinated. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Superstars weren’t told that their vaccination status was the reason for their release.

Here is what Meltzer said:

“Everybody was told it was budgetary reasons. So on the vax story, there were several of the people, I don’t know the names specifically, it was not everyone but it was probably a half dozen or more that did not get vaxxed that were cut and it was very much a part of the reason. The thing is and I know this from a couple of different people because I asked ‘were you told that if you don’t get vaxxed that you were in trouble??

They never told anyone to get vaccinated, as far as I know, or threatened (or told) you have to. Because I know [I asked] were you told that you needed to get vaccinated. And it was like ‘no.’ It was understood they wanted you to but nobody was told. If the idea was like we’re gonna cut people who don’t get vaccinated, I think that they should tell people ahead of time and maybe there’s legal reasons why they don’t as far as lawsuits or something.”

My Take:

  • I am sure WWE doesn’t want to deal with any legal issues, so they kept the releases as vague as possible.
