Rumor Roundup: Reason Why Vince Banned “Coronavirus” On WWE TV, Special Entrance Nixed, More

1) Reason Why Vince McMahon Banned “Coronavirus” From WWE TV

You have likely caught on that WWE has refused to name the coronavirus on WWE television over the past few weeks. Instead, they are referring to it as the “current circumstances in the world” or something similar to that.

WrestlingNews.co has provided some more details about why WWE has banned it from being said on WWE television.

According to the website, Vince McMahon banned it because he wants WWE programming to be a distraction from all of the negativity that we are hearing on the news. Here is an excerpt from their report:

I asked about this and the reason is simple. A WWE source told me the following:

“There is no weird conspiracy or weird reason for it. I know fans like to get on him about his list of banned words but this time the reason why he banned coronavirus is he feels it reminds people of the bad stuff they see on the news every day. His thinking on this is fans at home want to escape from that for a few hours so he told the announcers not to say the word. That is it, simple as that.”

My Take:

  • I do get the logic of this. Most people are spending all day watching the news and following along with the global pandemic. We don’t need to hear WWE give us medical advice. Most fans just want to be entertained during this time, which is what WWE is trying to do.
