Rumor Roundup: Ronda Rousey-WWE Update, Takeover Match Gets Cut For Time, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Match Gets Cut For Time At Takeover: Stand & Deliver

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (subscribe here), the match between Io Shirai and Raquel Gonzalez was cut for time at NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver.

This was because another match on the card went long.

My Take:

  • My guess is that WALTER vs Ciampa went a bit long. I don’t think this hurt Shirai vs Gonzalez though as they still had a really good match.

4) What Market That WWE Is Now Focusing On

WWE president Nick Khan was recently interviewed on The Colin Cowherd Podcast. During this, Khan revealed that WWE is now heavily focusing on the Latin American market.

Here is what Khan said:

“Latin America and specifically Mexico. If you look at the lucha libre product, which is the authentic Mexican wrestling style, there are two smaller Mexican promotional companies that exist. I think if we put the WWE effects onto one of those companies and we kept the authenticity – I’m talking about building our own company, not acquiring either one – if it had the WWE touch and work ethic, ultimately you can build that marketplace out where you have certain events that are still doing 30 million viewers, things you haven’t seen in the United States outside of the Super Bowl in the year. We can still do it on a consistent basis there, if we’re on free-to-air, which is their terminology for a broadcast network, and you have the right local superstars. We have a hyper-focus on that region.”

My Take:

  • NXT Mexico is something that I could see happening in the future. We will have to wait and see but this would follow the trend of NXT UK, India etc.
