Rumor Roundup: The Original Plans For Seth Rollins’ Heel Turn, WWE Making A Big Offer To Free Agent, More

3) The Rumored Plans For The Revival

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is looking to turn The Revival into more of a comedy tag team.

Here is what Meltzer wrote:

The booking plan on Smackdown is to turn The Revival into comedy characters. There are mixed feelings on this for obvious reasons and it still may get shot down, but the deal where Wilder tripped and fell during the ring entrance was supposed to be the start of it. The Revival only has a few months left on their contracts and haven’t agreed to a new deal after attempting to get a release months ago. The proposed idea is to do a spoof of the Fabulous Ones, which, funny enough, is actually the original Fargos heel gimmick in the late 50s.

Obviously the Revival persona is as different from the Fargos as possible, and the Fabs doing the flashy costumes and top hats were because the Fargos had become super babyfaces after being heels and the Fabulous Ones, the hottest Memphis tag team of that era, were Jackie Fargo’s remake of the Fabulous Fargos as faces. And the funny thing is Jerry Jarrett actually envisioned the Fabulous Ones as heels, where they would turn on Fargo and be managed by Jim Cornette. But they got over so big as faces that turning them would have been foolish

My Take:

  • This would be a terrible decision by WWE. WWE needs to just let The Revival be themselves and put on great tag team matches. This is definitely a rumor that I hope isn’t true.

2) Edge Shuts Down Return Rumors

Over the past few days, there have been some rumors suggesting that Edge could be coming out of retirement. This naturally got WWE fans really excited.

A recent Tweet from Edge though appears to deny him being cleared by WWE doctors:

My Take:

  • I would love to see Edge back but his health is the number one priority for me. If he isn’t completely safe, I don’t want him to risk it. I think that most fans agree with me there.
