Rumor Roundup: Why WWE Fired So Many Employees, Scrapped Plans For SANITY, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Why WWE Fired So Many Employees On Tuesday

WWE fired a lot of backstage employees on Tuesday from various departments. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE is folding several divisions in the company because there was a feeling that there were “too many redundancies”.

Here is what Johnson wrote about the layoffs:

PWInsider.com has been told by multiple sources that a number of the divisions will be folded together and will now be overseen directly by Executive Vice President, Television Production Kevin Dunn.  That is expected to be announced to staffers later today.

One of the reasons for so many departures is that over the last year, the company has determined there were too many redundancies across multiple departments in those areas.  One example cited to PWInsider.com is that there were two graphics departments, one for WWE TV production and one for digital and that they can easily be merged into one division, meaning the company could get that work done with a smaller group of staffers.

We are also told that the departures are also ripple effect of the company running under the pandemic, seeing that they can get by with far less across the board in terms of numbers.  One source noted that over the company history, they have shown they can “cut to the bone” if needed and still get things done and this is just the latest example of that.

My Take:

  • Always hate hearing about people losing their jobs. Sounds like Tuesday was a terrible day for some people and my heart goes out to them.

4) Backstage Reaction To Latest WWE Firings

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, a lot of WWE employees were “shellshocked” by the releases that were done on Tuesday. This is not just the employees who were let go but also the ones who still remain as their workloads will be increasing.

Here is what Johnson wrote:

As you can imagine, there are a lot of shellshocked employees, both those who exited today and those who remain, knowing they will have more responsibilities to deal with daily.  The Advanced Media Group was all but destroyed today, which has left a lot of people who worked to build that division heartbroken, as you can imagine.

My Take:

  • Losing friends and knowing your workload is going to increase sounds like a bad situation.
