Rumor Roundup: WWE Employee Fired After Incident With Vince, Kurt Angle’s Future In WWE, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) The Reason Why WWE Banned The Buckle Bomb

News broke this weekend that WWE has banned Superstars from doing the buckle Bomb. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that there were people in WWE who wanted the move banned after Sting’s career was ended by it several years ago (during his match against Seth Rollins).

The final straw was Nia Jax using the move on Kairi Sane several weeks ago:

“There were people who were wanting it banned before [the Jax botch]. It was one of those things where there were people against [the move] and when that thing happened, it was kind of like that was the straw that broke the camel’s back and then Vince banned it.”

My Take:

  • The move doesn’t seem worth the risk. It does look cool but not enough for me to be upset about it being banned.

4) Kurt Angle’s Future In WWE

According to a report from WrestlingNews.co, Kurt Angle is expected to re-sign with WWE (if he hasn’t already). This comes after he was released several weeks ago by the company.

Vince McMahon is reportedly afraid of losing Kurt to AEW:

I was told that everyone expects Angle to be back. He is currently on a 90-day non-compete until July after it was announced by WWE.com that he was one of the names released due to budget cuts related to the pandemic.

“If they haven’t signed him already then they will make an offer to him soon. Vince doesn’t want to lose him to AEW,” said a WWE source.

The person I spoke to knows that Kurt would likely not wrestle elsewhere after July but his name means a lot and Vince McMahon would rather not have him appear on a TV show for a competing company. Kurt was said to be happy with his backstage role so all signs point to him returning if he is offered a similar or better deal.

My Take:

  • Kurt is a valuable talent and can fill a variety of roles for WWE. Personally, I would try to do something with him and Shorty G. Using Angle as a manager could work. Or, they could use him as someone helping to train talent at the WWE Performance Center. Either way, they are smart to keep him.
