Rumor Roundup: WWE’s Plan For Aleister Black, NXT’s Future, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) NXT’s Future (Part 1)

As noted prior, the NBC Sports Network is shutting down. This means that NHL and NASCAR will be moving to the USA Network. This has led to speculation that this could impact the future of NXT and they could be forced to move nights at some point.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, NXT’s contract with the USA Network expires in October. Here is what Meltzer said:

“Here’s another part, the NXT contract ends with the television, it ends in October. The NHL, if they re-sign with NBC would start a regular season would start in October, is that when it would normally start unlike this year when it was all freaked up. Yeah, usually around October.”

My Take:

  • I am definitely interested to see what happens with NXT at the end of the year. Moving from Wednesday night’s would be a crazy story.

4) NXT’s Future (Part 2)

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated that the USA Network could move NXT to either Thursday or Tuesday night. This is because Wednesday is a big night for the NHL.

Here is what Meltzer said:

The NHL has double-headers every Wednesday night during the season, and it’s a big night for the playoffs, and they already preempted NXT twice for games that didn’t happen, but they have moved NXT because of it. The NXT contract for television ends in October. The NHL, if they re-sign with NBC, if they keep them, there’s a real good chance that NXT will be moved, most likely to Thursday, but it could be Tuesday. The NHL is going to mean a lot more than playing silly pro-wrestling games.

My Take:

  • For wrestling fans, NXT moving to Tuesday or Thursday would be a great move. This would allow fans to watch RAW, AEW Dynamite, NXT, and Smackdown throughout the week. From a competition standpoint though, this would allow AEW to dominate Wednesday nights, which is not what WWE wants.
