Chris Jericho surprised everybody when he appeared on the July 25th episode of Smackdown Live. Jericho ended up wrestling AJ Styles and Kevin Owens for the WWE United States Championship, which was won by Styles.

Jericho hasn’t been seen since that surprise return and it looks like it was a one-night only kind of thing. So what is the back story behind his return and why did it happen like that?
Chris Jericho gave us all the answers on a recent episode of his podcast: ‘Talk is Jericho’. During his interview of Fandango and Tyler Breeze, Jericho revealed the reason why he returned that night.
It turns out that he was at Smackdown to film some stuff for ‘Southpaw Regional Wrestling’ (that means more Clint Bobski). He also was at the show to record the podcast with Breeze and Fandango. He ended up getting ‘roped’ into wrestling:
“That’s actually why I’m here today, to film that show Southpaw and talk to you guys. And now I got roped into having a match.”
Looks like Jericho had his wrestling tights in his trunk…. Looks like WWE figured that they might as well use him if he was going to be in the building.
