The Rumored Reason Why Shane McMahon Replaced The Miz In The WWE World Cup

WWE swerved fans at the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. Shane McMahon ended up subbing himself into the WWE World Cup final match against Dolph Ziggler. This came after the Miz was unable to compete. Shane went on to defeat Ziggler to win the tournament.

Dave Meltzer provided an update on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here).

According to Meltzer, Shane replacing Miz was always the plan. The idea is to work towards a Shane McMahon heel turn. Here is a quote (via WrestlingNews.co):

“The idea is that Shane is going heel. Miz wasn’t hurt. This was all booked to be exactly what it is – the beginning of a Shane McMahon heel turn.

When this tournament was first put together, this was always the finish. It was always going to be the finish that Shane was going to turn heel when this thing ends.”

This would certainly be interesting. Shane inserting himself into the final match of the tournament seems like a very heel move. Maybe WWE is going the route where he becomes drunk with power? Could be interesting to see him feud with Daniel Bryan, the Miz, and AJ Styles.
