Top 5 Summerslam Matches And Events In WWE History

Favorite Summerslam PPVs/Network Specials:

5) Summerslam 1988: There is something about this Summerslam that has a place in my heart. First off it’s the first Wrestling VHS I owned so there’s that. Secondly it’s the bar for all-time great Summerslams. You had a fantastic surpsie with the Ultimate Warrior defeating Honkey Tonk Man and you had a main event that felt like a big time main event. You also had some really good tag team wrestling on this show and if you haven’t never seen this show please do yourself a favor and go watch it.

4) Summerslam 2014: This card is just loaded with good matches. The main event is something us wrestling fans will be referencing till the end of time and started the era of the Beast. This Summerslam also has a very good opener in Miz/Ziggler, a good heel turn during Stephanie/Brie,  a fun tag match and the greatest Lumberjack match in the history of wrestling.  I found myself incredibly entertained throughout this show and I may be alone on this but it’s my fourth favorite of all time.

3) Summerslam 1997: Look at the talent on this card and you’ll see why it checks it at number three for me. Goldust and Pillman, HHH and Mankind, Owen and Austin and of course Bret vs. Undertaker. It’s a very easy watch and it’s quite entertaining. This Summerslam set up so much going forward including Hart vs. Shaen at Survivor Series and the greatest Hell in a Cell of all time.

2) Summerslam 2002: Is it even a question what the last two are going to be? This event is so close to being the greatest for me that it probably depends on the day. It has my favorite match of all time on it and it’s loaded with absolute gems throughout the card. There is nothing that you won’t enjoy on this card. You get some dream matches with Edge/Eddie, Flair/Jericho and Lesnar/Rock. There is nothing about this show that is flawed except maybe Test and Undertaker.

1) Summerslam 2001: I knew it when I watched it back and I think I proclaimed it during my review. It’s the night Angle beat the hell out of Austin, RVD and Hardy nearly stole the show, The Rock dropped Booker and Undertaker attempted to murder DDP. Everything on this show is good even Tajiri and X-Pac. Its flawless everything about this show is fantastic and the pacing is well done. So many times you can have a great card but if the pacing and times are off it doesn’t deliver as well. They knew what the hits would be and they played to those strengths.
