Triple H Explains Why Roman Reigns Didn’t Make His First Battle With Leukemia Public

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were recently guests on the Elvin Duran Show. This was in order to promote the upcoming WWE Evolution PPV event. One of the topics that they discussed was Roman Reigns’ recent announcement that his leukemia has returned after 11 years.

Specifically, Triple H discussed why Reigns had never made his battle with cancer public until now.

Here is what Triple H said (h/t to Wrestling INC):

“Very few people knew about [his first battle]. He and I had spoken about it and this was something that he didn’t want to put out there until he had reached a certain point in his career because he didn’t want people to feel like he was being pitied or given things for a certain reason. He wanted to be able to come out at the end and say, ‘Look, I’ve dealt with this the whole time. You can do anything. This is not an end sentence.’

“As we talked about on Monday, [I told him] ‘Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans.’ The rest of the stuff happens and it didn’t work out the way he thought it would. It’s back and now’s the time to spread that message.”

Pretty admirable that Reigns didn’t want to use it as a crutch, even though he could have over the past several years of his WWE career.

On a related note, here is a report on who backstage knew about Reigns’ announcement before it happened.
