Kairi Sane won the Mae Young Classic tournament by last defeating Shayna Baszler. Unlike the WWE Cruiserweight Classic and the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournaments, no Championship Title was awarded to Sane for her victory.
A popular theory going around was that the winner of the tournament would be awarded the NXT Women’s Championship as the prize. This comes after Asuka recently vacated the title due to injury.
It turns out that Sane won’t get the title, but she will get a big opportunity to win it.
Triple H was interviewed by ESPN after the Mae Young Classic finale. He revealed the plans for Kairi and the vacant NXT Women’s Title. He says that Sane will be wrestling for the title at the next NXT Takeover event (on Survivor Series weekend):
“[I’m] very excited that she’s the first champion, and now the question is ‘What’s next for her?. I can tell you what’s next for her… On November 18 at the Toyota Center at the next NXT TakeOver, Kairi will be fighting to determine a new NXT women’s champion.”
Looks like Kairi vs someone on the NXT roster for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship.
