Below is a list of the worst WWE matches of 2019 (so far). We have used Dave Meltzer’s star ratings as our guideline from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here). All of these matches have received 1.25 stars or lower. We have listed the event, the star rating and a small blurb about what happened.
The Worst WWE Matches Of 2019
Asuka vs Mandy Rose
Event: WWE Fastlane 2019 | Rating: 1.25 stars
Asuka and Mandy Rose faced off at the Fastlane PPV in 2019. This was for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
Asuka won after about 6 minutes to retain her Title. This came after Mandy tripped on the ring apron. This match received a 1.25 rating from Meltzer.
Bayley & Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax & Tamina
Event: WWE Fastlane 2019 | Rating: 1.25 stars
Bayley and Sasha Banks defended their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at Fastlane against Nia Jax and Tamina.
Bayley and Sasha were able to retain after about 7 minutes. This match received a 1.25 rating from Meltzer.
Finn Balor vs Bobby Lashley
Event: WWE Wrestlemania 35 | Rating: 1.25 stars
‘Demon’ Finn Balor and Bobby Lashley faced off right before the main event of Wrestlemania 35. This was for the Intercontinental Championship.
Balor won the match in just over 4 minutes. This match received a 1.25 rating from Meltzer.
Sasha Banks & Bayley vs The IIconics vs Nia Jax & Tamina vs Beth Phoenix & Natalya
Event: WWE Wrestlemania 35 | Rating: 1.25 stars
Wrestlemania 35 featured a fatal 4-way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Beth Phoenix & Natalya vs Bayley & Sasha Banks vs the IIconics vs Nia Jax & Tamina.
In a bit of a surprise, the IIconics went on to win the belts. This match received a 1.25 rating from Meltzer.
Bayley vs Charlotte Flair
Event: WWE Clash of Champions 2019 | Rating: 1.25 stars
Charlotte Flair challenged Bayley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions. Bayley ended up exposing the turnbuckle and launched Charlotte into it while the referee wasn’t looking. This led to Bayley picking up the win.
This match ended up being less than 4 minutes long.
King Corbin vs Chad Gable
Event: WWE Hell In A Cell 2019 | Rating: 1.25 stars
King Corbin and Chad Gable faced off at the 2019 edition of Hell in a Cell. This was a match that was thrown on the card during the pre-show.
Gable won via a roll-up after about 12 minutes.
Baron Corbin vs Braun Strowman
Event: WWE Elimination Chamber 2019 | Rating: 1.00 stars
Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman faced off in a no disqualification match at the Elimination Chamber PPV. During the match, Corbin received help from Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley.
The trio performed a triple powerbomb on Strowman through two tables, which lead to Corbin picking up the pinfall victory. This match received a 1.00 rating from Meltzer.
Baron Corbin vs Kurt Angle
Event: WWE Wrestlemania 35 | Rating: 1.00 stars
Kurt Angle ended up facing Baron Corbin at Wrestlemania 35 in his retirement match. Corbin ended up winning after about 6 minutes. This came after he hit the ‘End Of Days’ for the pinfall victory.
This match received a 1.00 rating from Meltzer. Angle ended up cutting a promo after the match to thank the fans.
Samoa Joe vs Rey Mysterio
Event: WWE Money In The Bank 2019 | Rating: 1.00 stars
Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio faced off at Money in the Bank for the United States Championship. Mysterio won the Title in under two minutes.
According to reports, the match was stopped early due to Samoa Joe getting busted open.
Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin
Event: WWE Stomping Grounds | Rating: 1.00 stars
Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin faced off in the main event of WWE Stomping Grounds for the Universal Title. Lacey Evans ended up being the special guest referee for the match.
Seth ended up winning after Becky Lynch helped neutralize Lacey. As a result, Seth retained the Universal Title. This match received a 1.00 rating from Meltzer.
Alexa Bliss And Nikki Cross vs The IIconics
Event: WWE Summerslam 2019 | Rating: 1.00 stars
The Summerslam kickoff show featured a match for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. It was Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs the IIconics.
Cross and Bliss won the match after about 6 minutes to retain their Titles. This match received a 1 star rating from Meltzer.
Kofi Kingston vs Sheamus & Cesaro
Event: WWE Fastlane 2019 | Rating: DUD (0 Stars)
One of the lowest-rated matches of 2019 took place at Fastlane. Kofi Kingston faced off against Sheamus and Cesaro in a handicap match.
The story of the match was Kofi thought he was getting a shot at the WWE Championship. Instead, Vince McMahon forced him into a handicap match, where Sheamus and Cesaro could be in the ring at the same time.
The Bar ended up winning after interference from the rest of the New Day, Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura. It felt more like something that would happen on RAW or Smackdown, instead of a PPV.
This match received a DUD rating from Meltzer, which means 0 stars.
Lars Sullivan vs Lucha House Party
Event: WWE Super Showdown 2019 | Rating: DUD (0 Stars)
Lars Sullivan faced Lucha House Party in a 3-on-1 handicap match at WWE Super Showdown.
The match ended in a disqualification after all three members of Lucha House Party attacked Lars at once.
After the match, Lars destroyed all three members of the group.
This match received a DUD rating from Meltzer, which means 0 stars.
Goldberg vs The Undertaker
Event: WWE Super Showdown 2019 | Rating: DUD (0 Stars)
Goldberg and the Undertaker faced off in a dream match at WWE Super Showdown.
Unfortunately for fans, the dream match did not live up to expectations. The match was sloppy and featured many botches that could have seriously injured one of them. It was a mess.
The Undertaker won the match and put us all out of our misery.
This match received a DUD rating from Meltzer, which means 0 stars.
Braun Strowman vs Tyson Fury
Event: WWE Crown Jewel 2019 | Rating: DUD (0 Stars)
Braun Strowman and Tyson Fury faced off in Saudi Arabia. This was Fury’s first-ever professional wrestling match.
Fury eventually won via count-out after knocking Braun out of the ring with a big punch. Braun slammed Fury after the match in frustration.
This match received a DUD rating from Meltzer, which means 0 stars.
Bray Wyatt vs The Miz
Event: WWE TLC 2019 | Rating: DUD (0 Stars)
Bray Wyatt and The Miz faced off in a singles match at TLC. This was a match that showcased the range of Bray Wyatt. He started the match smiling and saying that he was really excited. He eventually kept getting angrier and angrier before he hit Sister Abigail for the win.
After the match, Daniel Bryan came out and hit a few moves on Bray before he disappeared.
This match received a DUD rating from Meltzer, which means 0 stars.
Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez
Event: WWE Crown Jewel 2019 | Rating: -1 star
Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez faced off in Saudi Arabia for the WWE Championship. The match lasted only a few minutes, with Brock winning via submission after locking in the Kimura.
The match received a -1 star rating from Meltzer, which means he absolutely hated it.
Bray Wyatt vs Seth Rollins
Event: WWE Hell In A Cell 2019 | Rating: -2 stars
Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins faced off in a Hell in a Cell match. This was for the WWE Universal Championship.
This was a really bad match. Bray took over 10 finishing moves and the match was eventually called off by the referee. The crowd was pissed because a Hell in a Cell match shouldn’t be stopped for being too brutal. That is the entire point of the match type.
The match received -2 stars from Meltzer, which is the lowest rating that I have seen in a long time.
