The Undertaker vs John Cena Reportedly NOT Happening at Wrestlemania 33

The Undertaker vs John Cena at Wrestlemania is a match that has been much desired by WWE fans. It is a surprise that these two WWE icons have never faced off at Wrestlemania, considering that they were both active around the same time and WWE had plenty of opportunities to make it happen.

Many fans believed that Wrestlemania 33 was finally the year it would happen. John Cena is facing off against AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble for the WWE World Title. The Undertaker is entering the Royal Rumble match. If Cena wins the title and the Undertaker wins the rumble, fans could see this dream match happen.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the Undertaker vs John Cena is not happening at Wrestlemania 33. According to the report, the match has been nixed by Vince McMahon after being heavily discussed as the main event of the show. No other details right now other than Vince McMahon has changed his mind and wants to go in different directions for both Cena and the Deadman.

On RAW this week we saw Braun Strowman watching the Undertaker segment very closely, teasing an encounter between the two. We could see Strowman vs Undertaker but nothing is close to confirmed.

Our take: New Orleans was recently announced as the host of Wrestlemania 34. The Undertaker was in attendance for the press conference. New Orleans is the city where the Undertaker’s legendary streak was broken. Just putting the dots together, but maybe Vince decided that he wanted to save Undertaker vs John Cena for the main event next year? Possibly a retirement match? Only way to me that it makes sense for WWE not wanting to do the Undertaker vs Cena this year.
