WWE Is Reportedly Considering A Network Special With Non-Contracted Talent In 2019

There have been plenty of things over the past several months that you probably never expected to see happen on WWE programming. This includes TNA footage appearing on the WWE Network. Also, WWE working with various promotions from around the globe.

It appears as if things could be getting even weirder if a new idea comes to fruition.

There is an interesting idea being pitched behind-the-scenes of WWE that has to do with non-contracted talent potentially appearing on the WWE Network. This tidbit comes from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here).

According to Meltzer, an idea is being discussed about a WWE Network special that only features wrestlers that aren’t currently under contract with WWE. This special would be sometime in 2019 if it comes to fruition.

Meltzer says that there would obviously be a motive from WWE’s side of things as to why they would do this. He speculates that it would likely be a way for WWE to open the door to work with various promotions around the Globe and use their wrestlers.

This is only an idea being discussed at the moment. It would be pretty interesting to see WWE do a version of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. For those who aren’t familiar, unsigned fighters compete and some get signed to the UFC if they impress. Could be an interesting concept with wrestlers competing to try and earn a developmental contract by putting on great matches. That is only complete speculation from us though and not mentioned in the report.

Would you be down for something like that?
