WWE Might Be Bringing Back The ‘King Of The Ring’ Name But Not For A Tournament

According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE is looking to bring back the ‘King of the Ring’ name. Before fans get excited, it is not what you are thinking of and has nothing to do with the tournament that wrestling fans grew up with. It actually could be used for the WWE’s United Kingdom Championship division.

Let us explain.

Plans for WWE’s UK division have stalled over the past several months. It initially looked like the division could be getting their own show on the WWE Network but this hasn’t happened yet. This has led many fans to question the future of the division.

According to the report from Johnson, WWE is now pitching a show to UK broadcasters. The title of the show being pitched is: WWE King of The Ring. The idea of the show is that it will be UK-centric and “would be produced in Great Britain featuring an all British cast of characters.” The show has apparently also been pitched to ITV.

WWE hasn’t used the King of the Ring concept for a few years. The last time that the tournament was held was when Wade Barrett won in 2015.

This is still in the planning stages, so don’t expect it to happen anytime soon. It is also unclear at the moment if this would air on the WWE Network as well as being on UK television.
