WWE News: More Details On Austin Aries’ Release From WWE And His Backstage Heat

Over the weekend it was announced by WWE that Austin Aries had been released by the company. This was some pretty shocking news considering Aries was just coming off a big feud for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Neville.

There have been plenty of rumors circulating about Aries’ release from the company and we have an update for you on the situation.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here) says that Aries’ contract was a 3 year deal with WWE. There were some original rumors that suggested Aries asked for his release but Meltzer says it was WWE’s call to let him go.

Aries was happy to accept the release because he was unhappy with his position in the company. He was also reportedly unhappy with his Wrestlemania match against Neville being on the kickoff show because neither of them received any royalties from the DVD sales (since the kickoff show isn’t featured). He will  be free to work elsewhere in 90 days rather than possibly sitting out until 2019 when his contract was set to expire. After 90 days are up, he will be eligible to wrestle wherever he wants.

Meltzer also says that Aries had some backstage heat and a lot of the writing team in WWE disliked him.

There must have been some big issues between both sides for WWE to flat out release him like they did.
