WWE News: Update On The Hardy’s And The “Broken” Gimmick Being Used In WWE

Matt and Jeff Hardy made their triumphant returns to WWE at Wrestlemania 33 in one of the best moments that has happened in a long time. The Hardy’s went on to win the RAW Tag Team Championships in their first night back to the surprise of the wrestling world.

Many fans have wondered what the heck is going on with the Hardy’s and if they will be using their ‘Broken’ gimmicks in WWE. They have shown some mannerisms of their ‘Broken’ characters but have been billed by WWE as the Hardy Boyz.

On their appearance on RAW Talk, there was no signs of them being ‘Broken’ and they appear to be using their old Hardy Boyz gimmick. They spoke about how happy they were to be home and in front of the WWE crowd again.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), WWE does not want to get involved in the Hardy’s current lawsuit with Anthem Sports & Entertainment (Impact Wrestling) over the ownership of the gimmick. Anthem wants a cut of the profits if the characters are used on WWE programming. Vince McMahon likes to own everything and that is why they are being billed under their old ‘Hardy Boyz’ gimmick.

WWE is letting the lawsuit play out and if The Hardy’s win the case, we can assume that their characters will become ‘Broken’ in WWE. Until then, WWE will be using them as a nostalgia act, which has worked nicely so far. Matt and Jeff will likely keep blending the Hardy Boyz and Broken characters into one until the lawsuit is over.
