Shane McMahon is scheduled to face off against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 33. This is a match that has received some backlash from fans who want to see AJ Styles face off against another strong wrestler or be featured in a higher-profile match.
The match with AJ wasn’t actually the original plan for Shane O’Mac at Wrestlemania 33. He was rumored to face off against a much larger opponent at the event.
You might remember back at Summerslam when Randy Orton was viciously beat-down by Brock Lesnar. The match was ended by TKO after Randy was busted wide open by an elbow from Lesnar. Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon came down to the ring to stop the assault. For his efforts, Shane received an F5 from Lesnar in the middle of the ring.

For his actions, Lesnar was fined $500 by Stephanie McMahon. This was going to be the start of a lengthy feud between Brock Lesnar and Shane McMahon that would eventually lead into a match at Wrestlemania 33. This would include some sibling (and brand) rivalry between Shane and Stephanie based on the low fine that she gave as a punishment.
So why was the match called off? It is clear that WWE planted the seeds for the match but nothing came of it. Months later, Shane is scheduled to face off against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania and Brock will be challenging Goldberg for the WWE Universal Championship at the event. So what happened?

The rumor going around is that Brock changed his mind about the match against Shane and was able to convince Vince to go in a different direction. This ended up being Goldberg where Lesnar lost their match against one another at Survivor Series in just over a minute…. Just imagine that was Shane beating Brock instead of Goldberg…
