WWE Summerslam 2000 Results, Review

Welcome everyone to Summerslam 2000 and this was is sponsored by Chef Boyardee. If you had to ask me the three biggest sponsors of WWF/E in my childhood it would be Stridex, Chef Boyardee and Karate Fighters. The last Summerslam wasn’t great however it looks like they are following the same template at least as far as the main event goes with a triple threat. Also if you are a podcast guy Something To Wrestle just reviewed this PPV. Well let’s right to business as Summerslam is back to opening with a TAG TEAM MATCH PLAYA! Holla Holla.

Right To Censor vs. Too Cool: Watching this back I can actually get into the Right To Censor gimmick I think it’s well done and pretty clever. Too Cool opens this match on fire cleaning house of EVERYONE. Scotty is flying all over the place to start this match and that comes to an end when Grand Master Sexay enters the ring and starts to be abused. Stevie Richards gets in and starts laying into Grand Master Sexay until Rikishi comes in from the hot tag. Rikishi lays into all three members of the right to censor and even stacks them up in the corner for some posterior offense. Scotty attempts the worm however gets super kicked for his troubles and Richards gets the win. Not one of the memorable tag team openers in Summerslam history.

Road Dogg vs. X-Pac: We have the two opening with some mat wrestling actually and man if I told you Road Dog and X-Pac were in a match and it would start with mat wrestling you’d call me a liar. Road Dogg over sells a kick to the arse and it’s hard to tell if the crowd is into this or not. Yep the crowd isn’t so much into this after a missed bronco buster attempt and now a sleeper hold. We get the traditional Road Dogg offense in and a couple of reverses and whoa… it’s over…. X-Pac wins. Ok then. I’m not sure either match went over five minutes and if so not well over.

Val Venis & Trish Stratus vs. Eddie Guerrero & Chyna (Mixed Tag IC Title Match): Nope. I’m not into this at all. Like seriously… at all. We get a slugfest to start between the guys and then some pretty good wrestling between Eddie and Val. We now have Chyna getting involved in fighting Val Venis. Look Chyna is super impressive I mean possibly the most dominant looking woman in the history of wrestling. I really don’t want her fighting dudes. We get both guys laid out and the ladies brawling which Trish at this time is nowhere in the same ball park as Chyna in the ring. Chyna hits a press slam on Trish like its nothing and pins her to win the IC title. I’m not going to rant about this at all I’m just simply going to move on.

Jerry Lawler vs. Tazz: Tazz comes out wearing a cowboy hat and does a blind man routine. Mocking Jim Ross I suppose? Man even year 2000 Lawler was impressive to watch as he hits a good looking drop kick. Oh wow Tazz goes for a somersault senton however he misses and Jerry drops the strap. The places goes nuts. Lawler hits the piledriver and Tazz no sells it which leads to a ref bump. Tazz locks in the Tazzmision however Jim Ross hits him over the head with a candy dish? This leads to Lawler winning. Man this PPV just went from bad to worse.

Shane McMahon vs. Steve Blackmon (Hardcore Title Match): Blackmon starts the match offering a free shot to Shane that he of course blocks. They brawl into the crowd and back to ringside as Blackmon hits a stiff kick from the guardrail. Funny spot where Blackmon drops a trashcan over Shane’s head and wears it out with a kendo stick. Blackmon goes to choke out Shane as Test and Albert hit the ring. Who knew that a year later Shane and Test would be cool and Stephanie would be with HHH? Shane with an impressive flying road sign spot man he’s athletic as hell. Shane begins climbing the scaffolding to get away from Blackmon like he’s in a horror movie. We all know where this goes Shane falls through the stage and then Blackmon who never gets credit for this jumps off with an elbow after him. Blackmon gets the pin and retains the title in yet ANOTHER awesome Shane McMahon Summerslam match. Were we really concerned about AJ and Shane at Wrestlemania?

Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit (Two out of Three Falls Match): Man I Miss Benoit I loved his entrance and the way he just walked to the ring like he was going to hurt you. We start with you guessed it a brawl, and both men go out to the ring. How loaded is WWF in 2000 when Jericho and Benoit are in the middle of the show? We get both men reversing there submission finishers back and forth until Jericho catapults Benoit into the corner. These two guys actually have pretty good chemistry and not sure why people aren’t so high on this match. Jericho goes for the Lionsault however Benoit locks in the cross face for the first fall. I loved Benoit’s entire move set when he wrestled especially the cross face. Benoit with some great psychology after the fall going right back to the submission to begin the next one. KUDOS! I talk a lot about how intense Blackmon and Shamrock were to hide their wrestling ability Benoit was equally intense but could wrestle. Another awesome reversal sequence as Jericho reverses the trio of German suplexes into the lion tamer and Benoit taps. We get another sequence of reversals from power bombs and Benoit hits a dragon suplex! We then have Jericho hit a frankensteiner off the top rope. The crowd is on their feet and so am I close down shop ladies and gentlemen this is the match of the night. Jericho goes for another Lionsault and lands on his shoulder and he can’t make the pin PSYCHOLOGY!!!!!! Benoit gets a reversal grabs the bottom rope and wins the match. Badass match ladies and gentlemen GO WATCH THIS MATCH!

Edge & Christian vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boys (TLC Match): My goodness start this PPV at Shane vs. Test and you may think it’s the best one ever. We start this match with chairs being thrown early and we get ladders introduced early. We get some early attempts to climb the ladder however Buh Buh, Matt and Christian take some early bumps off the ladder. Matt just took a nasty looking shot to the face from a ladder. Dudley do the ole WAZZZUP spot but from the top of the ladder cool stuff. Dudleys start setting up tables and Christian is the first to get 3D’d through one. They begin stacking the tables outside and Edge interrupts you know WITH A CHAIR. This match is brutal how did they do so many of them? We then get Matt hitting the twist of fate and a leg drop off the ladder. My goodness these guys have no chill when it comes to using these ladders and taking these bumps. How are the Hardy’s still wrestling? Jeff misses the swanton on Buh Buh on the outside and this is a car crash. It seems like EVERYONE takes tables spots and Edge even hits a spear on Lita. Hehe. The crowd goes INSANE when it appears Jeff Hardy is about to win the match but he can’t unhook the titles Edge and Christian smash ladders into him and pick-up the win. Sorry Benoit and Jericho but OMG that match was insane. THIS is the match of the night and NOW you can turn off the PPV.

The Kat vs. Terri (Thong stink face match): Look here’s the deal they are trying to stink face one another. Lots of crotch shots and Al Snow and Saturn are also there. If you want to see the Kat or Terri in a thong watch if you don’t watch wrestling for that move along.

Undertaker vs. Kane: The match never gets started and Undertaker is trying his best to rip off Kane’s mask and is almost successful. Oh wait Undertaker actually rips a part of Kanes mask and Kane bleeds. We get some punches and back and forth until Undertaker rips the whole mask off.  Wow they really brought me back down after two back to back GREAT matches.

The Rock vs. HHH vs. Kurt Angle (WWF Title Match): Man how young do all three of these guys look compared to today. I’m not saying any of the three men look bad but this is seventeen years ago! HHH beats the every loving piss out of Kurt Angle for trying and succedding at making advanced towards Stephanie McMahon. Angle takes a nasty bump from a Pedigree through the table when the table sells too soon. HHH grabs his trust sledgehammer and out comes the Rock. Angle gets stretchered off and he looks OUT OF IT! Rock and HHH brawl and Stephanie comes out to attend to Angle… uh oh…. Stephanie accidently hits HHH with the belt and Rock almost gets the pin. Man Stephanie is not being a very good wife at this moment. Finally HHH uses the sledgehammer on Rock to relief some stress and tension. Stephanie talks Angle into coming back into the match and he trips Rock which leads to a pedigree. Angle then pulls HHH out of the ring. Stephanie then slides the Sledgehammer to Angle and HHH accidently nails Stephanie which leads to Angle hitting HHH and Rock getting the win with a people’s elbow on HHH. This was a good main event not as good as the previous years or as good as the other two show stealers on the card but it’s very good.

Overall this is a very good Summerslam. They really have some shit in this show but man the Shane McMahon bumps, Jericho Benoit, TLC and the main event DELIVER. I’m not ready to crown it in my top three or five however it’s pretty damn good.  Do you enjoy this PPV, what was your favorite match? Until Summerslam ’01 be awesome.

  1. My favorite Summerslam is Summerslam 14

Brock vs Cena(WWE World Heavyweight Championship): Who would’ve thought that Cena would take a beating like that. Brock showed who owned Cena that night. I would say this was the shock of the night. In the first 30 seconds of the match, Lesnar executed an F5 on Cena for a near-fall. After, the match was a one-sided beatdown, with Cena managing only brief and ineffectual offense while Lesnar executed multiple German Suplexes (16 in total) on him. Cena executed an Attitude Adjustment for a near-fall. Lesnar then proceeded to sit up (mimicking The Undertaker) and laugh. Cena applied the STF on Lesnar but Lesnar escaped and executed a second F-5 to win the title.

Roman Reigns vs Randy: this was an underrated match on the card…I don’t think people give Roman enough credit but him and Randy worked well together. I felt with the the near falls and counters of each move added to the match showed that Roman was ready to be a Main Event player. After back-and-forth action, Reigns executed a Superman Punch and attempted a Spear but Orton countered with a Snap Scoop Powerslam for a near-fall. Reigns attempted a Leaping Clothesline but Orton countered with an RKO for a near fall. Orton attempted a Punt Kick but Reigns countered and executed a Spear to win the match.

Rollins vs Dean (Lumberjack match): Both wrestlers brought out the best in each other in this match. With fighting in the stands and also, fighting the lumberjacks. Nothing was going to stop them for killing each other and that was the perfect match for them to have as a blow off feud. After both men fought in the arena stands and assaulted the lumberjacks at ringside, Kane came out to try and restore order. Ambrose executed a Curb Stomp on Rollins but Kane interfered and broke up the pinfall, starting a brawl involving all the lumberjacks. Rollins hit a distracted Ambrose with the Money in the Bank briefcase to win the match.

Jericho vs Bray: Bray an underrated worker….showed the world that he can beat the rock-star all on his own, Jericho taking Sister Abgial on the barricade was nasty looking. Bray countering the code-breaker. Bray beating Jericho without Harper and Rowen

Stephnaie vs Bri: Even though this match was lack luster. But everybody wanted to see Stephanie get her but kicked, She came out in her Chyna gear looking like a boss. Midway through the match, Triple H appeared, followed by Nikki Bella. Triple H pulled the referee out of the ring as Brie applied the Yes! Lock, leading to Brie performing a baseball slide on him. Nikki then entered the ring, seemingly to prevent Stephanie from escaping, but instead attacked her sister, turning heel. Stephanie then executed a Pedigree on Brie to win the match.

Miz vs Ziggler( IC Title Championship Match): Hot opener. Miz done well with IC title. Him and Ziggler brought prestige to the title by making it important and the title that everyone wants to have around them. The ending saw Miz executed a Skull Crushing Finale on Ziggler for a near-fall. Ziggler executed a Zig Zag on Miz to win the title.

AJ Lee vs Paige (Divas Championship Match): 2-females who brought the weirdest segments to Raw but entertaining. This match was overshadowed by the other woman’s match but it showed how much Lee and Paige wanted to make the Divas Title important. The match ended when AJ applied the Black Widow on Paige, who countered the into a RamPaige to win the title.

Rusev vs Swagger (Flag Match): Rusev attempted to attack Swagger before the match but Swagger countered into the Patriot Lock, thus weakening Rusev’s ankle. In the end, Swagger passed out to the Accolade, meaning Rusev won by technical submission. Following the match, Rusev assaulted Zeb Colter while he was tending to the fallen Swagger and the National Anthem of Russia was played for Rusev.

Overall: Even tho this Summerslam had some uninteresting matches…it was still one of the best bcoz the main event saw John Cena getting murdered by Brock Lensar in 30sec
