Backstage News On The Original Plans For The Sasha Banks vs Charlotte Hell in a Cell Finish

Charlotte won the RAW Women’s Championship at Hell in a Cell by defeating Sasha Banks. The ending came as a surprise to many fans as Sasha had only become champion a few weeks prior. Below is some backstage news on what the original plan for the match was.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer and John Pollock from Live Audio Wrestling, plans changed for the match on Sunday. The original plan was for Sasha Banks to win the match and retain the title and this was in place until late in the day on Sunday. Vince McMahon and WWE brass reportedly changed their minds earlier in the day and switched the winner to Charlotte.

Meltzer suggests that the plan moving forward will likely be Bayley vs Charlotte for the RAW Women’s title after Sasha gets her rematch.

It should also be noted that the finish seemed odd to the Bayley vs Charlotte match. Charlotte won via ‘Natural Selection’ that left people shaking their heads. After watching it back, it looks like Sasha was supposed to go through the table as the finish, but it wouldn’t break. They had to adjust on the fly and that’s why it was a bit anti-climatic.

  1. I thought it was sloppy.
I think the women aren’t as good as the men currently they could be and i think asuka could main event but the rest just aren’t at that level in my opinion.

  2. Stupid. They risk making Sasha look like a loser who can’t win on PPV. Sasha should’ve retained and moved on to a new challenger instead of giving it back to Charlotte.

  3. give the ladies a break… they weigh 110 lbs. we’ve seen almost 300 lbs men fail to break tables. its not a big deal. did it take away from the match? maybe a little… but those girls busted their ass! it was an exciting match.

as for the outcome… for the life of me, I don’t know why they keep switching the title. WWE complains they want stars, then they have one of the most popular women stars EVER and they keep jobbing her out. I totally get losing every once in a while… but poor sasha can’t even get a month w/ the strap.

as for bayley/charlotte… here’s where it gets troubling — what’s for sasha? that’s the problem w/ his scenario. they only have 3 real women stars, the next person is a precipitous drop off. the only real saving grace would be that emma comes back and she’s paired against sasha. that would certainly help the strength of the division. im sure im alone in this, but I just don’t get bayley… I mean, I do and I don’t. what is she like the daniel bryan of the women? doesn’t have “the look”, nerdy, bit of a fangirl, the girl next door quality… either way… I love charlotte, she’s the best women’s wrestler in WWE, IMO. but I will certainly be more interested in an emma vs. sasha rivalry, if it happens.
