This past Sunday at SmackDown’s exclusive pay-per-view Elimination Chamber, we saw what many of us thought would never happen. Something that has been 4 years in the making and made the internet wrestling community, and the crowd in Phoenix, Arizona chant three special words: “You deserve it.” We witnessed the crowning of a new WWE Champion, and the new champion is none other than Bray Wyatt! With his win, he will face off against fellow Wyatt Family member, Randy Orton, at WrestleMania 33 for the WWE Championship.

There is some skepticism if Wyatt will retain the title, as Randy Orton has been a fan favorite for a very long time and is a reliable worker. Today, let’s take a look at my top 5 reasons why Bray Wyatt needs to defeat Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33 (if it is a singles match between them).

5. Time to Start the Apocalypse

Ever since Bray Wyatt debuted 4 years ago, he has always talked about in his cryptic promos that the “Apocalypse” is coming at the hands of The Wyatt Family. For 4 years, we barely saw Wyatt pick up singles wins, especially in big time matches with men such as John Cena at WrestleMania 30 and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31. It appeared that the WWE wasn’t going to take the “New Face of Fear” seriously and that they would be wasting another good talent to part-timers. All of this changed in 2016, when Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton were the sole survivors at the Survivor Series, leading the roster to a victory over RAW’s team. WWE jumped on this momentum at SmackDown’s pay-per-view TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs. Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, with the help of Luke Harper, defeated Heath Slater and Rhyno to become the new SmackDown Tag Team champions. They eventually lost it to American Alpha.

At the start of 2017, we saw Randy Orton overcome the odds at the Royal Rumble and got his ticket to a match at WrestleMania; I’m just assuming it won’t be the main event due to the possibility of Lesnar vs Goldberg. And then this past Sunday, Bray Wyatt became the WWE champion. A loss at WrestleMania could quickly stop the momentum gained by Bray Wyatt, plus what is the point of Randy Orton winning a WWE title?
