Chris Jericho Reveals His Original Opponents For Summerslam 2016 And Wrestlemania 33 That Were Scrapped

Chris Jericho was recently interviewed by Inside the Ropes. During the interview, Jericho revealed his original opponents for both Wrestlemania 33 and Summerslam 2016.

Jericho revealed that his original pitch to Vince McMahon for Wrestlemania 33 was for him to wrestle Shinsuke Nakamura. This would have served as Nakamura’s call-up to the WWE main roster.

The plans were changed after the storyline between Kevin Owens and Jericho developed. Jericho faced Owens at Wrestlemania 33 and Nakamura made his debut on Smackdown two days later.

Here is what Jericho said:

“After we went to Japan in June or July I remember coming back and talking to Vince, and I said you’ve got to bring this Nakamura guy up to the main roster. I wanna work with him. Let’s debut him at WrestleMania. I said I’ll stay until WrestleMania if I can work with Nakamura. Vince said okay. Then about a month later, I said that I actually think me and Kevin Owens could work at WrestleMania.”

Jericho also revealed that the plan for him at Summerslam 2016 was for him to wrestle Finn Balor. Jericho pitched this match after wrestling Balor during one of the live events in Japan. Jericho says Vince changed his mind. Jericho ended up teaming with Owens in a tag team match against Enzo Amore and Big Cass at Summerslam instead.
