The wrestling world was shocked on Tuesday after AJ Styles won the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal. Many fans expected Jinder to retain and hold onto his title until after the live events in India next month. Now, we have a new WWE Champion and a new Survivor Series main event: Styles vs Brock Lesnar.

Here are some more details on the title change.
According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE made the decision to change the title to AJ about a week ago. This corroborates with an earlier report from Dave Meltzer who indicated that some WWE officials only found out about the title change this week.
Johnson reports that multiple sources confirmed that the original plan was for Jinder vs Lesnar with John Cena as the special guest referee. This was going to be announced this past Monday before it was changed. Now, AJ Styles will face Brock and Cena was announced as the 5th member of Team Smackdown Live.
Johnson also says that the changes were specifically made by Vince McMahon himself. If all of this is true, it seems to indicate that Vince was unhappy with the card for Survivor Series and decided to shuffle the deck.
That could also mean more changes are on the way (but this is only speculation by us). Smackdown Live will feature two title matches. Charlotte will challenge Natalya for the Smackdown Women’s Championship and Sin Cara will challenge Baron Corbin for the United States Championship. Maybe we will see even more shuffling of the deck?
If you think WWE took the title off Jinder because he failed a drug test, Jinder came right out and denied a wellness policy violation or injury.
