WWE Curtain Call Incident – 8 Backstage Stories From Members Of The Kliq About What Really Happened That Night

Did Vince Know About It?

According to the members of the Kliq, Vince McMahon did in-fact know that the WWE Curtain Call was going to take place and even gave them the thumbs up. Scott Hall spoke about the situation on the Xpac 1,2,360 show. He says that he was present when Shawn asked Vince backstage and gave them the green light:

“Vince knew it was going to happen. I was talking to Vince when Shawn came in and said, hey blah blah blah and he went, is it important to you, and he said yes. And he said, OK make it happen. He said, I want Razor to come out, and I’m sitting right there”

On an appearance on Vince Russo’s The Brand podcast, Kevin Nash also says something similar. He says that the group was supposed to go out to dinner with Vince and Pat Patterson to a steakhouse after the show. After making dinner plans, Shawn would ask Vince’s permission, which Vince said yes:

“We’re originally supposed to go out with Vince to Smith & Wolinsky’s and have steak and wine – that is the plan. So Shawn walks in and says to Vince, ‘I want to do this with my boys tonight’. Vince, as Vince always does, says ‘Shawn how important is this – is it that important?’ Shawn tells Vince, ‘yes’, and Vince says, ‘then just do it’. So it was without malice that we did it”

So according to the Kliq, Vince was on-board.

Why Did They Do It?

One of the biggest questions that critics ask about the WWE Curtain Call incident is why did they do it? Surely they could have figured something out that was more professional. Kevin Nash on Russo’s podcast says that the incident was done out of love for one another and not meant to be anything more.

“We did s–t because we loved each other and had each other’s back, I hate to use the word organic, but it was organic. Everything we did was organic–it wasn’t pre-conceived. That wasn’t a work that night. It was four guys who loved each other saying goodbye.”

Shawn Michaels echoes a similar statement in the Kliq’s roundtable interview:

“I understand people’s perception of it. That’s one thing that time, wisdom and all that gives you. It wasn’t done to stick anybody in the eye. It was just friends expressing their care for one another. But, as a wise guy once told me, it isn’t show friends — it’s show business”

According to members of the Kliq, it was a group of friends expressing their love for one another. The group didn’t plan on cameras catching wind of it.
