WWE Curtain Call Incident – 8 Backstage Stories From Members Of The Kliq About What Really Happened That Night

Where Was X-Pac?

One of the biggest questions that people have about the infamous WWE Curtain Call is where was X-Pac?? After all, the Kliq had five members and the incident only featured Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

On an appearance on Talk is Jericho, X-Pac revealed that he was in a very bad place around that time. After several incidents, Vince ended up sending him to rehab:

“I just ate a handful of pills and thought it was a good idea to go into the production meeting afterwards. And I fell out in the middle of the production meeting and Vince sent me to rehab”

He says that he was in rehab during the Curtain Call or else he would have been involved in some way.

“Those guys did the Curtain Call when I was in rehab, that’s why I wasn’t in that”

It is interesting to think what would have happened to him if he was still contracted by WWE and participated? We have to imagine that he would have gotten a harsher punishment than Triple H and possibly even fired?

The Punishment

As it has been stated many times in the past, the punishment for the WWE Curtain Call fell on only one man: Triple H. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were leaving to WCW, so they couldn’t get punished. Shawn Michaels was the WWF Champion at the time, so he avoided any punishment. Triple H was the one who took the brunt of the punishment from Vince McMahon as the company needed a scapegoat to pay for the incident.

In an interview, Triple H explained what the punishment was:

“They did everything they could to screw with me, They gave me the worst matches possible, gave me lame referees, booked me against guys I had to carry. They took me out of the main event matches and put me in the opening card matches- they cut all my angles on TV and They stopped me from having any hopes of going for titles or belt. I was held back”

Triple H was also going to be the 1996 King of the Ring winner. After the incident, Vince changed his mind and had Steve Austin win the tournament. As a result, the ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin character was born.

It wouldn’t hold him down for long. The punishment would last about 5 months until he became the Intercontinental Champion. He would ascend to the top of the company and win multiple championships, so it is hard to say the punishment was that harsh.
