Best CM Punk Matches Of All-Time

1. CM Punk vs John Cena – Money in the Bank 2011

I feel as if this match doesn’t need a backstory. This is one of the most popular matches that has been talked about amongst wrestling fans ever since it happened.

Before the main event even starts, the Chicago crowd starts chanting “CM PUNK, CM PUNK, CM PUNK”. There is no better term to describe this atmosphere than electric! “This Fire Burns” by Killswitch Engage rings out, CM Punk makes his way to the entrance ramp. The crowd erupts in cheers. John Cena comes out and the match is on! This match is physical, and John Cena has to do his best to retain the championship as Vince McMahon demanded him to do it.

Near the end of this match, Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis come out and look to cost CM Punk the WWE Championship. Cena goes to win the match, and Vince tells Laurinaitis to ring the bell. Cena clotheslines him and tells Vince that he doesn’t want to win like this. CM Punk then delivers the GTS to John Cena, pins him, 1-2-3, CM Punk becomes the new WWE Champion and walks out of WWE with his contract expiring.

This match had the chemistry, the physicality, the crowd, and the perfect storytelling. This match had an unseen aurora around it, having reality and fiction blurring the lines. It is talked about as being one of the BEST matches in WWE history, and I have to agree 100%.

  1. Interesting list. I’d keep the Meltzer ratings out in the future though… these are your lists, not his, be proud of that!
Not a huge Punk fan myself, but I do think the later punk/cena match on RAW (no idea the date, haha) eclipsed the 11 MITB one. But just my opinion!!
