Rumor Roundup: Sonya Deville’s Return, Roman Reigns’ Opponent At Wrestlemania 37, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) The Backstage Reaction To Vince McMahon Not Meeting With Zelina Vega

There was a report going around that Vince McMahon refused to meet with Zelina Vega after she was fired by WWE. On Fightful Select (subscribe here), Sean Ross Sapp provided some of the backstage reactions from the WWE locker room on this issue.

Sapp says that nearly everyone he spoke to was not surprised by Zelina not receiving an exit interview from Vince. There were several stories about planned meetings with Vince being delayed for weeks.

It was also noted that Zelina’s firing did not instill confidence in the WWE locker room:

One wrestler noted that it didn’t instill a lot of confidence in them that Zelina had an actual concern over a hot button issue and wasn’t heard out, and was promptly fired.

My Take:

  • I still think it was a mistake to fire Zelina. I was always a big fan of hers and I think that she will excel wherever she goes next.

4) Differences In The Writing Of RAW & Smackdown vs NXT

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a difference in philosophy when it comes to the writing of the WWE main roster vs NXT.

NXT does not deal with late changes on the day of a show, which is much different than RAW and Smackdown. Here is what he wrote:

While Raw and Smackdown are famous for last-day rewrites and driving the writing team crazy, NXT is being written with the long-term booking in mind and there are almost never late changes the day of the show. And if there are, they are usually forced based on someone booked being pulled for COVID or other reasons

My Take:

  • This is how RAW and Smackdown should be done. Instead, we always hear about Vince McMahon changing things on the fly and rewriting shows on the day of.
