Over the past week, WWE confirmed a 6-woman tag team match for the Evolution PPV event. The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan) vs Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Natalya. If you are like me, you were disappointed that WWE booked this match. This is something that seems suitable for an episode of Monday Night RAW but not for this historic event. I mean, why not even toss a WWE legend or two into this match? It doesn’t make much sense to me.
I have come up with a theory about what I think will happen with this match at Evolution (key word here is theory). I think WWE will end up scrapping the match, meaning we won’t actually see it take place.
So why would WWE scrap this match?
My answer to that question is WWE is trying to throw fans off. This is because I think that Stephanie McMahon is going to introduce Women’s tag team titles at the start of the show, with a mini-tournament to determine the inaugural Champions. This will be a nice surprise, similar to when Lita introduced the new Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 32. I would be shocked if Stephanie wasn’t involved in Evolution in some way and she will more than likely be the person who unveils the Women’s tag team titles (if they are indeed happening).
This seems like something that WWE would want to keep a secret. So how do you keep it a secret? You book a meaningless 6-woman tag team match with some of the top contenders for the rumored tag team titles.
This would also explain why there are so few matches confirmed for the event so far. If you take out the 6-woman tag, there are only 7 matches confirmed for the event. This is much fewer than a traditional WWE PPV event. I think that they are saving room for a 3-match mini-tournament (2 semi-finals matches and the final).
If my theory is correct, Sasha/ Bayley and the Riott Squad would be two teams involved in the mini-tournament. Natalya could also participate alongside a returning WWE legend or someone random. That would leave us with only one team needed to fill the rest.
That is my theory. I think that the 6-woman tag team match will get scrapped and it is just a cover-up for the Women’s tag team title announcement.
