6) Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

NXT Takeover: Rival

Sticking with Rival and, while not the best technical wrestling match, this had one of the best stories in a wrestling match in years. Two former best friends, one being twisted by hate and jealousy while the other clamouring to understand what had changed between the two.

Sami and Kevin put on a storytelling masterpiece. It’s rare in wrestling you feel devastated by a finish as we all live in a world where the curtain is pulled so far back, we view it from a booking standpoint instead of a fans standpoint.

This changed that. Seeing your favourite wrestler being unable to stand while losing the title that  he’d clawed for, for years to capture is honestly heart-breaking and cemented Kevin Owens at the biggest heel in the company.

Owens won the match and the title via technical knockout.

5) DIY vs The Revival

NXT Takeover: Toronto

The second time these two teams make this list. The Revival took on DIY in a 2 out of 3 falls match for the NXT Tag Team Titles in Toronto.

Both teams had a lot to live up to based on their previous match, and did they ever. A fantastic display of tag team wrestling. If someone tells you that tag team wrestling is dead, make sure to show them this match…

After splitting the first 2 falls, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa ended up winning the match and the tag team titles. It was a fantastic match that has received a ton of praise.
