The WILD Wrestlemania Plans That Were Reportedly In Place For James Ellsworth Before His Release

James Ellsworth was released by WWE this week. Prior to his release, Ellsworth wrestled Becky Lynch and videos circulated of him getting beat up by the Smackdown Women’s division at live events. It turns out that there were some wild plans in place for him at Wrestlemania 34, before WWE ultimately decided to cut him loose.

When we say wild, we mean it.

According to James McKenna & Ryan Satin on the latest edition of Wrestling Sheet Radio, the plan was for James Ellsworth to face Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania 34 for the Smackdown Women’s Championship….. Seriously.

McKenna says that these plans were in place as recent as August. The idea was for Ellsworth to come out, saying that he was transitioning and identifies as a woman. As a result, it gave him the right to challenge for the Women’s title. This idea also apparently came right from Vince McMahon and was something WWE was seriously considering.

Satin also referenced an interview with Triple H, where he said in regards to Ellsworth grabbing the Money in the Bank briefcase:

“I wasn’t there, but it doesn’t seem right, although we are still trying to confirm that James Ellsworth is 100% a man.”

Also, the negative reaction to Ellsworth grabbing the briefcase for Carmella might have been what made Vince scrap the idea.

This is a lot to take in, if you want to hear more, you can check out the latest episode of Wrestling Sheet Radio (about 25 minutes in).
