The Plans For Summerslam

This years Summerslam will take place in the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. This will be the third straight year that the event will be held in the city.

Last year’s Summerslam featured some big matches: AJ Styles vs John Cena, Seth Rollins vs Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton to name a few. If rumors are true, WWE is looking to go much bigger this year.

It was briefly mentioned in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this week (subscribe here), that WWE is looking to make Summerslam this year the biggest event possible. This means likely bringing in some part-timers for the show to draw some casual eyeballs.

Pair this with the poor ratings WWE has been doing lately and we are almost certain that WWE will need to get some excitement going for the product.

Let’s speculate on who WWE could bring in for the event.

– Goldberg: He has said “never say never” about wrestling another match. WWE could pay him a lot of money for one more match at the event.

– Triple H: Usually he only wrestles at Wrestlemania but if WWE needs a ratings boost he could compete at Summerslam.

– Ronda Rousey: Rumors are that she has followed some WWE accounts lately on social media. A bit of a stretch but you never know.

– Kurt Angle: He has spoke about his desire to return to the ring. A lot of fans think the current Corey Graves storyline could lead to a match.

Or it could be someone that we didn’t list. One thing is for sure, WWE will want to put on a big show in the Summer to help out with ratings.
