WWE Super Showdown 2019 Rumors And Spoilers

10) AJ Styles Is Currently Injured And Could Miss The Show

It appears as if AJ Styles will be missing the WWE Super Showdown event in Saudi Arabia. This is because he is currently dealing with an injury.

Here is what Styles had to say about his current injury on his Mixer account:

“I’ve got something going on with my AC joint. It’s rubbing up against bone and we thought I had a fracture. It may not be the case, which is a good thing. It may require a shot to keep the swelling down. It’s not a major injury. It’s just wear and tear. Hopefully, it doesn’t keep me out for very long. I can’t stand being out but I haven’t had rest in a long time. So I’m going to take time to rest my body so I can be back. WWE has made sure we’ve dealt with this injury properly. Trust me, I want to be back. I want to earn my money.”

WWE was originally advertising Styles for the battle royal at the event. His status is now in question for that match.

9) Banned Term

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE banned “Saudi Arabia” from being said on television during the build towards the event.

“Jeddah” and “WWE Super Showdown” are the only things that they were allowed to use to describe the show on RAW and Smackdown.

This appears to be a way to limit backlash for running another PPV event in Saudi Arabia.

8) Plans For A Saudi Arabia Takeover Were Scrapped

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE was originally considering doing Takeover: XXV in Saudi Arabia.

Here is a quote (h/t to Ringside News for the quotes below):

“I heard an interesting rumor this week and that was actually talk that TakeOver was going to take place in Saudi Arabia the night before the Super ShowDown.

I think NXT dodged a bullet by that not taking place because I think it would have put a heel dimension to the brand which has always been a babyface brand to the WWE audience.

If that was the case they really dodged a bullet in this one.”

This would have made Super Showdown a two-day event. The Super Showdown PPV on Friday and Takeover the night prior. Instead, Takeover: XXV took place on June 1st in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
