Backstage News On The Plans For Baron Corbin

We noted prior that WWE is VERY high on Baron Corbin. Him and Braun Strowman are expected to receive major pushes over the next year and the company sees Corbin as having more potential as a main event talent than Strowman.

Fans are seeing the push for Strowman right away as he has become the main focus of RAW. Corbin’s push on the other hand won’t come until later in the year.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the reason why Corbin didn’t get the WWE Championship shot against Randy Orton at Backlash, is because the company is saving that match for a bigger show. Instead, that title opportunity went to Jinder Mahal.

WWE feels like Corbin can be the top heel on Smackdown Live after the ‘Superstar Shake-Up’. He is still expected to receive a title shot over the next few months but the company decided to wait a little bit longer.

Expect Corbin to play a big role in the main event scene of Smackdown in WWE in 2017. Not only that, if things go as planned, Corbin could be a big factor in WWE’s main event picture for the next few years.

Our thoughts – This is only speculation by us but we have to wonder if WWE is trying to avoid another Roman Reigns situation with Corbin. They don’t want to rush him too fast because fans will feel like he is handpicked and could turn on him. They have done a great job so far in our opinion building him up. Hopefully they continue to do so before he wins the title.

  1. Corbin hasn’t felt like a main event level talent to me yet and he’s definitely less interesting than Strowman by far.
