This past week on Monday Night RAW, Roman Reigns made his big Summerslam announcement. He said that he is the number one contender and will be wrestling for the WWE Universal Championship at Summerslam.
This was a bit confusing to fans because it was long rumored that WWE was building towards Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 34. Now it appears as if this match could happen at Summerslam instead.
There are some rumors circulating that the reason why the match between Brock and Reigns might be moved to Summerslam is because WWE wants the Universal Championship on television every week. Brock has been Champion for a few months now and has only appeared a few times on television. The ratings for RAW have dipped for the past few months and this could be a way to try and recover.
Like we always say, take rumors with a grain of salt. It certainly would make sense if WWE is worried about their viewership. There were also some rumors earlier this week that Reigns could face John Cena at Wrestlemania 34. If those rumors are true, WWE won’t want to waste the match between Brock and Reigns. Summerslam would be a big platform for it to happen, especially when WWE wants to make it as big of a show as possible this year.
