Former WWE Writer Reveals Some Storyline Pitches That Were Rejected For Cody Rhodes

Former WWE writer: Kevin Eck recently wrote an article for PressBoxOnline.com. Eck worked for WWE on the creative team from 2011 until 2014. We already posted his interesting idea for Dean Ambrose’s WWE main roster debut, and we thought that we would share his ideas for Cody Rhodes.

Here are some of the storyline pitches that he (personally) had for Cody Rhodes but was rejected by the higher-ups in WWE.

The Romance Of Cody Rhodes And Kaitlyn (2013)

Eck had the idea to pair WWE Diva Kaitlyn and Cody Rhodes together as an on-screen romance. This was when he was teaming up with Damien Sandow. Here was his pitch:

“Rhodes and Kaitlyn would begin dating, causing Sandow to resent her for putting a strain on his bromance and for her trying to change Rhodes by encouraging him to abandon his villainous ways. Having to choose between a love interest and a close friend is something a lot of people could identify with”

Vince eventually scrapped the idea when the Bella Twins returned and were paired with Sandow and Rhodes instead.

Cody And Brandi Rhodes As The New Goldust And Marlena (2014)

Cody Rhodes would turn on his brother Goldust. This would turn him heel and create the Stardust character. Cody’s real-life wife Brandi would have been revealed as the one behind his turn, and they would have became a modern version of what Goldust and Marlena were all those years ago:

“It’s revealed Brandi was the one who planted the seed in her husband’s mind that his brother was using him to stay relevant and keep him from becoming the star of the team. Brandi’s plan is for Stardust to become bigger than Goldust ever was, and she adopts a look and mannerisms that are reminiscent of Goldust’s former wife/valet, Marlena”
