The big news on Thursday was that WWE is changing the name of the Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal. This came after a lot of fans expressed their displeasure with the name choice for the match.
WWE has officially changed the name to the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.
WWE issued a press release about the name change. Here is what they issued:
“After further consideration, we believe it’s best to proceed with the name ‘WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. What remains most important is that this historic match is part of WWE’s unwavering commitment to the Women’s Division.”
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, Wrestlemania sponsor Snickers was unhappy with the negative publicity the match was garnering:
Let me clarify — I wasn’t told they encouraged or forced a name change. They were just unhappy about it
