2017 Newcomer Of The Year Award

IWNerd’s Pick: Pete Dunne

• Pete Dunne first appeared at the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament back in January. He didn’t win, but along with Tyler Bate, proved that he is going to be a future star in WWE. Both Dunne and Bate put on some incredible matches together, including at NXT Takeover: Chicago which is a Match of the Year candidate. As far as somebody who came out of nowhere (for me at least), I have become such a big fan of Dunne and his heel work. I see him being a major star in WWE over the next few years.

Michael’s Pick:  Adam Cole

• 2017 saw its share of newcomers from Mike Kanellis, Kairi Sane but none would make such a shock to the system then Adam Cole! Adam made such a huge impact upon his debut into the WWE, we were all shocked if what we saw was true. Three former ROH Champions uniting together but it was Cole that solidified them as an undisputed team. Cole is good on the mic, spotless in the ring & it’s only a matter of time before the NXT Champion is none other than Adam Cole Bay Bay!

IWNerd’s Pick: The Miz

• The Miz deserves credit for the year that he has had in 2017. I find him to be must-listen-to on the microphone. Some notable promos this year from the Miz:  The August 21st episode of RAW when he spit some fire at both Roman Reigns and John Cena. This also includes his incredible back and forth with John Cena during their feud leading up to Wrestlemania. The Miz is easily my choice for best talker in the WWE today. The Miz has had an awesome year and he deserves some praise.

Michael’s Pick:  The Miz

• The Miz is one of the best wrestlers on the mic & everything he says is absolute gold. 2 years ago, Miz cut a shoot promo on Talking Smack that was so extreme, that even Daniel Bryan walked off the set. This year, Miz focused his attention on John Cena during their feud into Wrestlemania & he laid waste into big match John. Miz brought up everything from Cena being a part-timer to taking spotlights away from talent but the one word that brought it home was Cena being “hypocritical”. That one word was able to represent all of Cena’s promos as nothing more than a lie. Because of this, for the rest of the year fans could not take Cena’s promos seriously when he claimed that he was not a part-timer, he did not have a golden shovel & that the fans decided what happened in the WWE. Sure others have roasted the leader of the Cena nation this year but it was The Miz’s promo that set the bar & like Cena said “if you want to be the big dawg, you have to learn how to cut one.
