WWE Writers Share Backstage Horror Stories

5) Not One Of “The Boys”

If you are one of the WWE writers, you have to learn your place inside of the locker room. There are a lot of unwritten rules of hierarchy in the work place.

In an interview with Wrestling Inc, former WWE writer Court Bauer told a story about the time he got in trouble with Stephanie McMahon. A group of wrestlers were telling stories backstage about the first time that they were cut open during a match.

Bauer told his story to the rest of the boys, but ended up getting in trouble with Stephanie afterward:

“So, I start telling the story of when he was in MLW when he did an angle with Low-Ki and Homicide and they ultimately cracked a broom stick over me and they used the wrong side and there was a sharp Edge to it that sliced my forehead open and I’m gushing blood. So, we start talking about that and everyone and it’s a very chill, laid-back conversation”

He continued:

“Stephanie then points to me and says, “Can you come here?” after the meeting. We used to call that “getting called to the principal’s office.” She told me never to do that again. I said, “Why?” She said, “Only the boys can talk about getting color.” I said, “Well, I was in wrestling. You hired me for my experience in wrestling. I’ve been in wrestling since 1998. That was 6-7 years ago. This is 2005. This is a little shady. But that’s what she wants and I was like, “Fine. No problem.”

You have to know your role…

4) Vince McMahon Doesn’t Believe In Sickness

Vince McMahon is a work-a-holic. If you work for him and the WWE, don’t expect to have any sick or days off, since he apparently doesn’t believe in them.

Vince Russo wrote a piece where he detailed some insight into what it was like working for Vince McMahon. Russo was very sick during a creative meeting, where he says that he should have been in the hospital.

Here is what Russo said about being sick and working for WWE:

“There is no sick”. That was a direct quote from Vince McMahon to me, while I tried to work through a pay-per-view and TV taping when in actuality I should have been in a hospital”

He continued:

“That infamous line came from Vince the night prior at our production meeting when I was on the verge of DEATH while sitting next to him. After about an hour into the meeting, Vince looked at me somewhat annoyed and said, What’s wrong with you? Vince—I’m Sick, I said. Vince looked me dead in the eye and delivered the line, THERE IS NO SICK.”

Sickness is for the weak, according to Vince that is!
