“Less Is More” – 3 Ways WWE Can Improve The Quality Of Their Programming

1) Move Smackdown to Fridays or Thursdays

Smackdown was in the slot of Thursday and Friday for most of it’s lifetime, so why did we move it? Smackdown being moved to Friday or Thursday would be helpful because it would break the consecutive amount of days that WWE airs a show and it would give Smackdown a bigger spotlight because it’s days after RAW. Sometimes people

will burn out after watching a PPV and a Monday Night RAW (6 hours of content!), and that will make them skip Smackdown. If you space it out, not only will Smackdown have more of a spotlight, it will most likely pull more ratings.

At the moment in the ratings there is a big gap between RAW and Smackdown viewership. There has never been one week where Smackdown has gotten a higher rating than RAW (since the brand split of course). There is a large audience that only watches RAW, and even though I’m speculating here, I think it could be because they don’t want to down 5 hours of wrestling in 2 days (or 8 hours in 3 days if a PPV happened).

You have to keep in mind that even though WWE is targeting the family demographic, most families would probably have trouble finding time to watch WWE shows for so many consecutive days.

I personally think that Smackdown should be on Fridays over Thursdays because of NFL having Thursday games, but TV Networks aren’t always able to put a show on a certain date at a certain time. Scheduling doesn’t always work that way.
