“Less Is More” – 3 Ways WWE Can Improve The Quality Of Their Programming

It was the poet Robert Browning who said the phrase “Less is more” in his poem “Andrea del Sarto”, in the year 1855, but as we have seen in the past few years, WWE is no friend to Mr. Browning’s philosophy. We get 8 hours of weekly programming by WWE and an extra 3-4 hours every few weeks. WWE takes up prime time television 3-4 days in a row every week. These days go head to head with every sport and tons of big events. If you watch ALL WWE programming, you are giving up half of the evenings you get every week.

I personally believe that no matter how much of a superfan you are, it is extremely hard to keep up with all of the shows. If you do happen to keep up with the shows, it is most likely hard to enjoy them. I personally went to NXT TakeOver and Survivor Series a few weeks ago, and it completely burnt me out. Don’t get me wrong, they are amazing shows, but after Sunday I took a break from watching wrestling until Thursday. If you made it through that whole week watching ALL shows, you are much tougher than I am. But this made me think. I consider myself a big fan of wrestling. I watch lots of promotions outside of WWE and I like to follow the business too. If you were just a casual fan, I can’t understand how you would have any interest to watch ALL of the shows.

There’s always something else on TV. NFL and NCAA football is wrapping up, NHL and NBA are just getting started, and UFC is pumping out a show every week. With all of this variety, it’s hard to keep a fan’s attention for 5 days in a row. The Survivor Series week had 12 hours of TV from Saturday to Wednesday. If you include the Survivor Series pre-show, that’s 14 hours. I only watched 6 hours, and I tapped out after that.

You have heard me cry for very long now, so you probably have the question in your mind:

“So Jack, what is the solution that you have in mind?”. I sadly don’t have one solution, but I have three instead if that works. So let’s break down each idea that I will put forward today.
