Ranking Every WWE PPV Of 2017 From Worst To Best

13) Backlash

The first Smackdown Live Pay-Per-View after Wrestlemania 33 was almost just as forgettable as Payback.  The event was headlined by the match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship.

It wasn’t all bad. There were some fun moments like the Usos vs Breezango for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. Though, if you aren’t into comedy wrestling, you probably disliked this too. There was also Sami Zayn picking up the surprise victory against Baron Corbin.

The rest of the show defined mediocre. Shinsuke Nakamura’s debut match against Dolph Ziggler was decent (but not great). AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens didn’t live up to my personal expectations but was decent. There was the pointless match between the Welcoming Committee (Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina) and Charlotte Flair, Naomi, and Becky Lynch .

The big shock was Jinder Mahal winning the WWE Championship. Jinder went from a jobber in WWE to World Champion in just a few months.

No huge complaints about the show. Like I said, mediocre at best and certainly forgettable.

12) Money In The Bank

The Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View was decent. Not the best Pay-Per-View of the year, but certainly not the worst.

It was cool to see the first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Carmella defeated Charlotte, Tamina, Becky Lynch and Natalya. The ending left a bad taste in everybody’s mouth because the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match was won, by a man… James Ellsworth climbed the ladder and gave the win to Carmella. WWE ended up re-doing the match on Smackdown Live a few weeks later, which kind of took the luster away from the original.

The men’s Money in the Bank ladder match featured: Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Dolph Ziggler. There were some fun moments, including AJ and Nakamura’s incredible stare down and brawl during the match. The match was won by Baron Corbin, who was the predictable choice among fans. As we saw later, Corbin would fail his cash-in, making his contract win a wasted opportunity. Did WWE regret their decision giving him the win? Sure seems like it.

Jinder Mahal vs Randy Orton was half-decent but nothing special.

Overall it was a decent show. I always enjoy Money in the Bank ladder matches and the show had some fun moments so it sticks around the middle of this list.

11) Extreme Rules

I had a tough time with the 2017 edition of Extreme Rules. On one hand, I LOVED some of the show but I also hated some of it too.

The part that I loved was the fatal 5-way match to determine Brock Lesnar’s next challenger for the Universal Title: Samoa Joe vs Finn Bálor vs Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt. The match was a lot of fun and certainly a great main event for a show that didn’t feature the WWE Universal Championship. 5 of the biggest names on RAW going at it. It was an awesome multi-man match and all 5 guys involved did a great job.

I also enjoyed the heck out of the steel cage match between the Hardy’s and Sheamus & Cesaro.

The big problem that I had with the event was the Kendo Stick-on-a-Pole match for the Raw Women’s Championship between Bayley and Alexa Bliss. This was one of the worst matches that I can recall in recent memory. It made Bayley look like a joke and was head scratching as to why WWE would have gone through with it in the first place. Easily the worst match of the year so far in 2017, in my mind at least.

With several great moments and matches, Extreme Rules lands in this spot on our list. If the RAW Women’s Title match never happened, this event would be MUCH higher on the list. The event is punished in the rankings by one bad match.
