Worst PPV Of The Year Award

Our Winner: Battleground

The 2017 Battleground PPV kicked off with the great Smackdown Tag Team Title match between the Usos and the New Day. Unfortunately for fans watching, this was the only real high-point of the show.

The match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin wasn’t good. The match between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens ended with a botched finish.

The event featured two gimmick matches. The first was a flag match between John Cena and Rusev. I don’t know about anybody else but I can’t stand flag matches. There was also the Punjabi Prison match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton. I am also not a huge fan of Punjabi Prison matches. It was something different but still a silly (and confusing) concept. The surprise of the Great Khali returning was fun but ended up being pointless. We haven’t seen Khali appear after Battleground and he was essentially used as the way WWE could get out of the Jinder and Orton feud.

Not even a question for me, this was the worst Pay-Per-View of the year.

Honorable Mention: Nothing close to anything as bad as Battleground for me. I guess you could say Fastlane but Battleground was far worse in my book.

WTF Moment Of The Year

Our Winner: Jinder Mahal Wins The WWE Championship

In one of the most surprising moves in the past few years, WWE had Jinder Mahal win the WWE Championship at the Backlash Pay-Per-View.

In only a few months, Jinder went from being in the category of ‘jobber’ to a WWE Champion. I don’t think anybody in the world would have predicted that to happen in 2017.

I think that many fans were left shaking their heads and wondering what WWE was doing. It certainly had me saying “what the f***”.

Certainly one of the wildest moments of the year.

Honorable Mention: The Great Khali Returns For One Night Only.
